Healthy Alternatives

Welcome to Healthy Alternatives for the Vegas Beat.

Sex is fun, necessary, and risky. Alternative or Kinky Sex, carried out without forethought and knowledge, increase the risks involved, for everyone, incredibly.

The goal of this column is to create a safe place to ask those really “dumb, embarrassing, stupid, intelligent, scary, kinky, weird” questions you are not really sure where else to ask.

Feel free to send me your questions about alternative lifestyle heath issues, you can email your questions privately by clicking here, or you can  post your question in the Healthy Alternatives Discussion area by clicking here.

Contrary to popular belief, I don’t pretend to know all the answers, and if I don't know the answer to your particular question I will consult with experts in that area to find an answer to your questions.

In future editions I will respond, anonymously, to questions sent to me, or posted in our discussion area, for the first edition I will just remind you of some really common sense precautions to take while playing,  taught you by Moma before you even went to Kindergarten.

Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands….when?

After using the toilet, before you eat, before you start play, and when you end play, and any time you happen to think it would be appropriate.

If it smells bad don’t put it in you mouth – or other orifices (except asparagus of course)

Don’t eat someone else’s food many benign germs and viruses can transfer from food and beverages. Of course if the benign can transfer so can the bad things

Flush Beside the odor un-flushed body wastes are a source of infection. Stool (or poop for those who don’t like fancy talk) can transmit many diseases like giardiasis, and hepatitis for starters – then you can talk about some serious poop.

Clean up your own mess – “Red up”** to prevent falls, use viricidal, antibacterial cleaner on play space and toys. If you toy gets someone else’s blood on it really should be given to the person bloodied by the device.

Things I would like to add for your consideration this month

Sadly, oral sex counts as sex for STD’s

Any disease found in the mouth can be transferred to the genitals and any disease found in/on the genitals can be transferred to the mouth.

Oral herpes can and does transfer to the genital area and genital herpes can be transferred to the mouth. Open cold sores during oral sex will likely give the temporarily blissful receiver of the act genital herpes in a few days.

Bad teeth and open mouth sores allow syphilis, HIV and hepatitis a ready port for transmission. And recent research shows many cases of heart disease could be prevented with toothbrush use twice a day

Gonorrhea and Chlamydia grow just as well in a warm dark throat or anus as in the vagina or urethra.

Human papiloma virus (HPV) is rising as a source of throat and anal cancers. Remember HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer in women. Ask you health provider if you are appropriate to receive one of the HPV vaccines now available. The vaccine has recently been approved for males. The cancer you prevent may be your own.

**Red up – rural Pennsylvanian for clean up – don’t ask, I don’t know the origin

As Sarge used to say in Hill Street Blues “Lets be careful out there” and I would add wear your rubbers in the rain and wash your hands.

Happy practicing
